May 25, 2007
China Netcom has chosen McWiLL (Multicarrier Wireless Internet Local Loop) over WiMAX for its broadband wireless access service in the city of Qingdao for the Beijing Olympics. Based on SCDMA (Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) technology in the 400MHz band, McWiLL was developed by Beijing Xinwei Telecom Technology. China Netcom is expected to utilize McWiLL to relay sailing events during the Olympics. Other broadband wireless access services to be provided during the Beijing Olympics include China Mobile's and ChinaComm's respective WiMAX services in Beijing.
